Orphans in Adilang
Loved Ones,
For over twenty years, a war of injustice has swept over East Africa. Not a war for freedom fought against hostile enemies, but a war of hatred fought against children. In the last few years, the name “Kony” has come up quite a bit. This is a man who has terrorized northern Uganda and South Sudan with his army of “child soldiers.” One of the many terrors that ensued from this war was the kidnapping of boys and girls from the villages throughout the region – these children were then enlisted into his service as soldiers, brides, and slaves. Many of the boys were forced to kill their parents and watch their villages burn. Although this war has now ended in Uganda and Sudan and many of these children have returned to their homes, overcoming the trauma and pain they experienced will be the next great battle in redeeming this region.
There is a village in northern Uganda called Adilang that has as many as 500 orphans within walking distance. There is little-to-nothing being done to provide for the everyday needs of these children – safety, food, and education – and nothing being done to bring emotional healing to the trauma they have faced. The Lord has previously opened doors for us and the House of Friends missions organization to form relationships with some of the spiritual leaders around Adilang. Here, we have received the request for help – spiritually and physically – in bringing restoration to these children and in helping the gospel of Jesus shine forth in this region that has been clouded by years of unimaginable darkness. (Click here to view a video about the trip in 2011)
This brings us to today. We are now planning a follow up trip with a small team, joining together with House of Friends, to go to Uganda and begin leading the way in ministering to the victims of the war. The trip will take place in Mid-July of 2013 and probably last a little less than a month. The purposes of the trip are threefold:
•First, to find a location in which we could build a mission base. The goal of such a place would be to build an orphanage and restoration center from which we could walk these war-children through emotional healing and also equip them and others to be successful in life going forward. This is one of our long-term goals in helping the region. While this center would primarily serve for the children, we also hope to be able to use it as a launching pad for future ministry in northern Uganda and even into the unreached parts of South Sudan.
•Next, to learn in more detail the individual stories of the children and survivors of the war in northern Uganda. This will allow us to begin healing processes with some and pin-point individuals and children that the Lord would have us someday bring back to a restoration center.
•Finally, to visit and minister in the current orphanages that House of Friends orchestrates: The Abba House in Entebbe and the Eddy Reber House in Katogwe. We hope to spend some days with the orphans that are presently there: loving on them, playing with them, and praying over them.

Adilang, Uganda
This leads us to our need: as the body of Christ, we would ask you to partner with us, not for our sake, but for the sake of the love of Jesus and Gospel of us His life, death, and resurrection to go out to the unreached of the world. We plan to leave for Uganda around Mid-July and are in great need of prayer for this trip. We specifically are asking for prayer over the following concerns:
•That our finances would be provided for, our bodies able to withstand the trip, our emotions to endure the difficulties we may see, and our spirits to be tuned in to the Holy Spirit at all times.
•That we would be protected physically and spiritually as we travel.
•That we would have open doors to minister the gospel to the lost in Uganda and to minister healing to the children that endured the war.
•Finally, that we would have wisdom and knowledge on how to move forward after returning to America.
Along with the need for prayer, there is also a need to raise finances to help cover the costs of the travel, lodging, food, and resources we need in order to reach our goals for this trip. We are trying to raise about $8000.00 for the trip for the both of us – this would cover all of our needs and enable us to do all of the ministry we desire to see done while we are away. All contributions to this trip would be tax deductible. If you would like to contribute in prayer, finances, or both – please fill visit our pledge of support page by clicking here or just continue scrolling down on this current post.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and considering joining us in our journey – we know that ministry is truly impossible without the Body being there with us!
Blessings,
Josh and Alyssa Hulme
